My mom always asks me why I insist on buying books when I can just borrow them from the library. The thing is if I buy the book then I’ll never forget that I read it. In a couple years as I’m packing up for college I’ll see that book and I’ll go, “Oh.. I remember that book! It made me feel so happy” or “it made me cry…” or the even more continuous reaction “ I was so mad when they killed off that character, I remember throwing it across the room.” It will never have an expiration date stitched into the binding of when I need to finish it or I'll have to pay a due. No. I can read it over and over and over again until I’ve memorized it, had every word etched into my brain forever, and when I want to read it again all I have to do it walk over to my bookshelf, not drive to the library just to find out that it’s out and “You’ll will have to wait two weeks to read it” again, by which I will already be past the feeling of wanting to read it. Books match how I’m feeling, like the music I’m listening to. It’s what I want in the moment, the story I feel like living. And that’s got to be worth the 9.99 I spent buying it at the local book store, isn’t it?
While we’re on the topic of books… I hate when they come out with a movie, that was previously and still is a book, and they feel the need to change the cover. Replace it with a picture of the actors that played the main character. NO! No, no.. I hate this! The book and the movie are not the same thing, and by putting an actors picture on the front you ruin the experience the reader has in their mind, picturing what the characters looks like for themselves. If you watch the movie, read the book too! You’ll be surprised at how different they are. When I read a book, I won’t watch the movie because 10/10 times the movie ruins the nice picture I made up in my mind of how the scene went (yes there’s scenes in books too). I mean for fucks sake I didn’t even watch The Fault In our Stars because I didn’t want it to be ruined, because everything is always ruined. Sorry if I was hurting your ears I’m just really, really passionate about books, and ranting about books. - Maer "Maybe there's something you're afraid to say, or someone you're afraid to love, or somewhere you're afraid to go.
